The Lady with an Ermine is an oil painting on panel (54x40 cm) of Leonardo da Vinci, dating back to 1488-1490 and portraying the young lover of Ludovico il Moro, Cecilia Gallerani. Leonardo conceived a double rotation, with her left bust and her head on the right, unusual at the time. There is a correspondence between the point of view of Cecilia and the ermine: the animal seems to be identifying with the girl. The lady seems to turn as if she is watching someone coming into the room, and at the same time has the solemn imperturbability of an old statue. An imperceptible smile lurks on her lips: to express a feeling Leonardo preferred to hint at emotions rather than making them explicit.
